In Focus: NOSTA Branch Dortmund

Personal Support Meets International Expertise

Steel, the pump industry and automotive are among the sectors that shape the business of our Air & Ocean team in Dortmund. Added to this are international freight movements with a strong focus on the US and Asia, as well as requirements that often go beyond simply booking transportation. This is precisely where one of the location’s strengths lies: looking at complex requirements as a whole and developing suitable solutions together with customers.

The NOSTA Group has operated its own Air & Ocean location in Dortmund since 2019. Today, the team serves more than 50 established customers and manages air freight imports and exports, FCL and LCL shipments, as well as customs clearance.

Consulting Beyond Transportation

The Dortmund team manages shipments holistically from the initial inquiry through final execution. Our colleagues understand their customers’ requirements, can respond quickly and maintain an overview of the entire process even when more complex issues arise.

Their work goes beyond operational execution. Market changes, new regulatory requirements and developments in freight rates have a direct impact on international transportation. The team assesses these developments, provides current market insights and highlights potential effects on existing or planned shipments. Opportunities for optimization are also addressed proactively.

“For us, it is essential to truly understand what our customers need. Especially when requirements become more complex, operational experience needs to be combined with open communication and a view of the entire process. That is how we create solutions that do not just work on paper, but also in day-to-day operations,” says Timm Fürst, Branch Manager Dortmund.

Expertise in Steel, the Pump Industry and Automotive

The steel industry is a particular area of expertise for the Dortmund location. The team also serves customers from the pump industry and the automotive sector.

In these industries, transportation requirements are often highly individual and closely linked to customs, documentation and market-related issues. Among other services, the Dortmund team handles DDP exports to the US and supports the associated customs processes. Organizing the loading of containers at ports in northern and western Germany is also part of the service portfolio.

Internationally, the team has a particular focus on the US and Canada as well as Asian markets including China, India, Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam. Requirements that cannot easily be handled through standardized solutions are also part of the team’s day-to-day business. Experience, market knowledge and the ability to combine different services are particularly important in these cases.

Connected Logistics Expertise Across the Ruhr Region

Dortmund does not operate in isolation. Across the Ruhr region, the NOSTA Group brings together different areas of expertise, enabling us to offer customers considerably more than individual transportation solutions.

Just a few miles away, our Schwerte location complements Dortmund with a strong Road portfolio. Its services include less-than-truckload and full-truckload transportation throughout Germany and Europe, ADR and express transportation as well as specialized transport solutions. The location also provides solutions for the steel and chemical industries as well as warehousing capacity in the Ruhr region.

This makes it possible to closely connect different requirements within the region and, where necessary, manage them across locations.

“The proximity of our locations in the Ruhr region is a real advantage for us. When different requirements come together, we can coordinate quickly internally and combine services without requiring the customer to start from scratch with each individual topic,” says Timm Fürst.

Connecting Capabilities Across the NOSTA Group

Beyond the region, Dortmund can also draw on additional expertise across the NOSTA Group. One example is the cooperation with our warehouse in the Hamburg area. Export containers can be loaded there and import containers can be unloaded. As the facility is also a customs warehouse, relevant customs processes can be integrated as well.

Additional NOSTA Group capabilities can be incorporated for pre-carriage, on-carriage or further transportation requirements. This enables different modes of transportation and logistics services to be coordinated as part of an integrated solution.

Making Our Steel Expertise More Visible

The location intends to make its steel expertise even more visible in the future. It combines in-depth industry knowledge, international Air & Ocean expertise and the capabilities available across the NOSTA network.

For the Dortmund team, the decisive factor is not simply which individual service is required. The focus is on how different requirements can be combined effectively and which solution best fits the customer’s business model. The Ruhr region in particular demonstrates the potential created by closely connecting NOSTA locations in the area – an advantage that is not yet widely recognized across the market.

“We do not simply want to organize transportation. We want to understand what our customers actually need. That requires fast communication, professional consulting and a view of the entire process,” says Timm Fürst.
