Osnabrück/Siebenlehn, April 29, 2025 – A joint project between Felix Schoeller and NOSTA Group has developed into a real attention-grabber. This is one of the insights gained by the manufacturer of specialty paper and its full-service logistics provider during their first year of collaboration. Since spring 2024, the daily shuttle service between the Weißenborn paper plant and the warehouse in Siebenlehn has been completely electric. Now, both companies are taking stock of the project, which will continue until at least 2029.
Jörg Prochaska, Regional Manager Business Development and Head of the NOSTA branch in Siebenlehn, explains why both sides are calling it an attention-grabber: “Our drivers regularly tell me that people along the route keep looking back at the vehicles in amazement. Our trucks have even been a topic of conversation at a primary school along the route. They're real eye-catchers!” says the logistics expert. And, of course, the three Volvo trucks that commute between the two locations every day are an exciting sight, even for non-experts. But there is much more to this project than meets the eye. The two companies involved are pursuing sustainable goals with this project. Almost 150,000 kilometers have been covered entirely electrically since spring 2024. “That means over 180,000 kilograms of emisions saved and almost 70,000 liters of fuel saved. This puts us slightly above the forecast figures from the start of the project,” reports Jörg Prochaska.
Against the backdrop of these figures, Felix Schoeller sees clear advantages in the project. Alexander Remy, Process Manager Supply Chain and Logistics at Felix Schoeller, says: “First of all, we were able to reduce our emission footprint through lower-emission transport. We are also seeing significantly less air pollution and have noticed a reduction in noise pollution.” The company sees the project on the edge of the Ore Mountains as an important part of its long-term sustainability strategy. “In doing so, we want to further advance the mobility transition in the transport sector and at the same time make ourselves independent of fluctuations in fuel costs,” Alexander Remy affirms. That is why the project, which will continue until at least 2029, is considered to be thoroughly positive for both sides.
In everyday work, the drivers remain convinced of the electric trucks, reports Jörg Prochaska. “The smooth driving behavior without gear changes and the immediate power when accelerating are particularly well received here.” Technical difficulties at the charging stations and on the vehicles at the start of the project were effectively resolved with updates, so that regular operations are now running smoothly. One technical concern was even completely eliminated: “Initially, we assumed that the trucks' power consumption would increase significantly in the winter months. But even at temperatures below freezing, consumption rose by less than 10 percent,” says Jörg Prochaska. And that is another figure in this project that Felix Schoeller and the NOSTA Group can add to their list of success indicators.
